What is Self-care anyways?

Self-care is the practice of taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional health. Sounds like a daunting task doesn’t it? Not to worry! We are all trying to achieve these goals so you are not alone when it comes to this. Especially nowadays with this fast paced world. We just need to look at one step at a time rather than the whole staircase. I personally do whatever I feel like doing that day. Today, I am going to talk about physical activity in this blog. I will post other blogs about mental and emotional health. For example: I know I have goals to try to work out at least 30 minutes a day (that is what my doctor told me to do anyways), I have different workouts I pick out for my “mood” that day. Maybe I will only have energy to go outside for a walk or have a lot of energy and will do a 40 minute sweating session! Whatever you do, it is something!

Physical activity is extremely important for so many reasons. I know we all know this, but yet, it is such a challenge. I am the type that when people tell me to do something then I don’t want to do it. I know I felt at least a few of you agreeing with me in your mind while reading this. However, I know they are right on this topic.

My advice and personal experience on this topic has led me to this wisdom….do what you want, as long as you keep moving. I always struggled with my weight because I have a horrible sweet tooth however, the point is, I always thought I had to work out at the gym for an hour on the treadmill or weight lift heavy dumbbells. Although, it is about exercising your mind too. Doing what excites you and makes you feel happy! Because if you do something that excites you, for one, you will want to keep doing it and two, it will release your stress and happy vibes in your body. I have studied Biology, Psychology and all those fancy classes so I could go into all the technical terms, but I won’t for this blog. I want you guys to just have fun and not over think it! Free dance in your living room with your favorite music blaring (unless you have paper thin walls then use your headphones), do exercises in your recliner (believe me, I have tried some for your lower legs and abs and they are NOT a joke), jog or walk in place while watching your show, or go enjoy outside. There are SO many options and resources nowadays for activities to keep you moving I could go on and on. I have lower impact workouts I do and even just weight lifting a small weight is an achievement and don’t let anyone tell you different!

With physical, mental, and emotional health, they are all tied together. You start with one, then it is a chain reaction to the other one. I do know people have physical issues (I can only do low impact as I mentioned), but that should not stop you from moving. Your body was made to move! It needs it and if you guys want suggestions, please comment on this or message me and I would be happy to give some workouts that I do for a healthier lifestyle. Just FYI, I am not trying to sell anything nor am I associated with anyone to make money on my suggestions. I am just here to help people and hopefully make a difference or at least brighten someone’s day.

Tune in for more content to come….I will be talking more about self-care and self improvement and go more into detail with more tips. Thank you everyone! Now go and get moving! We all have to start somewhere so let’s start together! I would also love to hear from others about their journeys.
